Refrigerant Leak Repair in Topeka
Honest Refrigeration Services
When the refrigerant of your air conditioner is leaking, you need an honest and reliable HVAC repairman. Many companies still use an hourly pricing strategy to charge customers; this is okay, but at Pat Plumbing, Heating and Air, we use flat-rate pricing. We find that this price structure is a fairer option because you know exactly what the final price will be before we begin work, and there is an incentive for our technicians to finish the job in a timely manner. This isn’t the only characteristic that makes us honest. We also have the longest-lasting warranties, and because our trucks are so well-stocked, you won’t have to worry about extra time needed to retrieve the parts.
Rely on Pat Plumbing, Heating and Air if you need AC and refrigeration services in Topeka. Call (785) 783-5780 to set up an appointment.
What You Should Know About AC Refrigeration
Refrigerant is the liquid that is found in your air conditioner. It is responsible for removing the heat from the air that is being cooled. Refrigerant does not necessarily ‘cool’ the air, but rather removes the heat from it.
The next thing you should know is there are two different types of refrigerant, which are:
- R-22 refrigerant – This is the old standby for air conditioning systems. However, it is being phased out in favor of more environmentally friendly options. In 2020, this type of refrigerant will no longer be produced or imported but price increases can already be seen
- R-410A refrigerant – A newer, more environmentally friendly refrigerant that is chlorine-free. The fact that it is chlorine-free ensures it does not damage the ozone layer. It also contributes to a more efficient HVAC unit.
Although R-410A is meant to replace R-22 in the coming years, it does not mean you can interchange the two.
Repair, Upgrade, or Replace
Because R-22 and R-410A refrigerants cannot be used interchangeably and R-22 is being phased out, you may have some difficult questions now or in the future.
Generally speaking, you will be given the option to:
- Repair the condenser coil
- Upgrade to a coil that uses R-410A
- Completely replace the entire unit
Repairing the old condenser coil might be less expensive in the immediate future but may not be wise due to the increasing costs of R-22. Upgrading an old condenser to a new one might be an option if your AC system is newer and you are willing to spend a bit of money to do so. However, upgrading may not even be an option if the HVAC system is too old or fragile.
